Welcome back to day two of PowerSheets Prep Week! Didn't it feel good to get started?
Just joining us? We're so glad you're here! We're starting our 2020 PowerSheets Prep Work with plenty of time before the new year so you'll have everything you need whenever you dig in.
Today we’re focusing on pages 14-21. With prompts like, "What have you decided that you cannot do?" and "Where were you ten years ago? Where are you today?" as well as a review of the good things and challenges from the last year, this section dives into the stories we tell ourselves.
And stories have power! Emory University research has shown that the more children know about their family’s history, the stronger their sense of control over their lives and the higher their self-esteem. The study's family history measurement turned out to be the best single predictor of children’s emotional health and happiness.
In later research, the same psychologists showed that the more kids knew about their family histories—and particularly when they understood that their families had successfully overcome hardship—the more resilient and better able to moderate the effects of stress they were. "When faced with a challenge, happy families, like happy people, just add a new chapter to their life story that shows them overcoming the hardship," concluded the researchers.
This is good news! Our challenges don't have to weigh us down or define us—and, in fact, can spur us on to great things! Use these pages in your Prep Work to tell a new story about yourself: the story of a woman making progress on what matters to her, little by little, with setbacks and celebrations along the way.
Grab your PowerSheets, your favorite pen, and stickers (stickers make everything more fun!), and get ready for a pep talk from the goal coach in your pocket (that's us!). It's worth stepping into the fear and digging in today. We can't wait to see what you uncover!
Part 2 Pages:
— Break your identity box by taking a hard look at the words you're using to describe yourself.
— Spend some time writing out your story—where you were 10 years ago, and where you are today.
— Write out your fears and their roots. Be gentle with yourself as you dig into these often sensitive areas.
— List the good things and challenges from your past year. The past has a lot to teach us!
— Note the lessons you learned from the good things and challenges of your year. This allows you to move forward with more wisdom, more seasoning, and more life under your belt!
— Record the people you're grateful for. Then, do something about it!!
