What to Do With Lingering Goals

Welcome back to PowerSheets Prep Week, friends! It’s the middle of the week, so I have to ask you: how are you feeling? If you’re anything like us, you’ve likely uncovered some pretty surprising things over these past 20 pages of your PowerSheets Prep Work.

We’re going to spend today focusing on pages 20-25 in the Prep Work (one of my favorite parts!): the good things from the past year, the challenges, and lessons learned from those. Then, we’ll use what we learned to help you spring forward into 2018.

What did filling out your PowerSheets Cultivated Life Evaluation on pages 12-13 yesterday teach you? Where are you right now? I’d wager that while there are areas of your life where you’re pretty satisfied, there are others waiting for radical change. And guess what! That’s a good thing!

Others might ignore what’s not working in their lives, carrying on as if everything is okay, but not us. In order to leap into the new, we first must know from where we are leaping. We are starting with where we are and what we have because before we can move forward, we have the opportunity to learn from the past.

But, first. What to do with all those pesky lingering goals?

Figure out why it’s still there. If you haven’t made progress on this goal, ask yourself why? Is it connected to something that matters to you, or is it just another to-do on your long list? Is it because you don’t have time to do it? Do you need to buy supplies to accomplish it? Whatever it is, get to the root of why it’s still lingering.

Put them on your PowerSheets. The brand new Goal Action Plan Worksheets have been adjusted to help you break your goals down into little action steps. We listened to your suggestions and gave you two pages for each of your 2018 goals to start brainstorming action steps and ways to get started.

Give yourself a deadline. If you need a kick in the pants, then set a date and give yourself a deadline to finish it. Bonus points if you tell someone that deadline and ask them to hold you accountable.

Release yourself from the goals. If this goal isn’t rooted in what matters to you or if it’s something you’re doing to please other people, then let it go, friend. Don’t listen to any voices in your head telling you that you are a quitter. It’s not true at all. If you’re not ready to let them go completely, then consider punting them for a few months.
